And I respectfully disagree as well. Which is why I say there is not consensus. I recognize that your viewpoint is widely held, but it is not universal. In my area plenty of street blade signs and addresses use street names like “US Route 2” or “Vermont Route 15”. I and other local mappers have no problem understanding these as appropriate name values for these roads. In other areas, mapping practice is different and that’s just fine.
