In my area there is a local park with hiking trails. The park is cut in half by a road. The signs on the ground refer to it as ‘Oscawana Island Nature Preserve’.
I used a multipolygon relation to group both parcels together but another person reverted my changes. We’ve been discussing it privately, but I disagree and want to hear other people’s inputs.
The available sources consistently describe the McAndrews Estate as being within Oscawana County Park / Oscawana Park, not as the official current name of the eastern park section itself. There are some flyers and interpretive materials in the park, but they appear to reference the historic ruins/site, which is entirely appropriate for a separate historic feature or loc_name=* tag.
My understanding is that under normal OSM practice, the park should therefore retain its official park name in name=*, while “McAndrews Estate” should be mapped separately as a historic estate/ruins feature or local/historic name.
Unless there is an official county map, park designation, or on-the-ground signage explicitly naming that section itself “McAndrews Estate,” replacing the park name with a historic name would not follow standard OSM naming conventions.
