Mistaken Japanese POI list

Hello. I am new here, and unsure how/where to post this issue. After downloading tiles of northern Japan, I see that the list of POIs all appear in the Chinese roman alphabet, and NOT Japanese! I think the translation method used takes the kanji characters and translates them into Chinese, rather than Japanese. I do hope someone will pay attention to this huge error and fix it. Thank you.

From which site did you download the tiles? OSM data can be downloaded from several servers. That is also why it is better to report such a problem directly to the administrators of that site.

Hello! The tiles were selected, and the request was made, at: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

That’s a very old issue. Do not expect it to be fixed soon…

Hello Mr. Hiller. Apologies for not getting your meaning exactly. Do you mean that many know about this problem, and that it has yet to be fixed? Thank you.

garmin.openstreetmap.nl uses data from osm.org They use a particular set of tools to come to the tiles you downloaded. The site is not really maintained, and you should not expect fixes nor updates.

Please try one of the many other websites that offer files for Garmin devices: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download
The one from http://download.bbbike.org/osm/ offers UT-8 downloads, so it is possible that the problem you describe is fixed there. I don’t know

Hi again from Japan. I’ll try those sites you offered. I also found: http://admincabal.com/osm/ and http://tmz.skr.jp/data/gmap.html, at which to try my luck. Thank you so much for your time and advice!

I have the same problem. Did any of the other downloads work?
