MapRoulette Critique

Yes, and as mentioned elsewhere in the case of iD (which is just a few lines of code running somewhere) that’s a hard problem to solve.

There’s also a fairly detailed j’accuse above.

Another more recent example is this maproulette changeset. This is the task. Both the mapper and the task creator are more experienced here; the latter should have written a better description and the former should have engaged brain before editing. I would also argue that @mvexel (the author of MapRoulette) should change the platform to prevent vague tasks from being created and ensure that poor quality edits are at least vetted.

I suspect** that that’s because your challenges have been sensibly designed and have included a good description of what needs to be done. Many MapRoulette task creators do not do this and the software makes no attempt to enforce, patrol or in any way address this issue.

** I don’t remember seeing an issue with any challenges created by you and a search of DWG tickets doesn’t find any either. For completeness, we’ve had about 3 dozen over the years that explicitly mentioned MapRoulette.

Edit 15/2/2025: I removed the hotlink from the task creator as what MapRoulette was showing me for that yesterday is different to what it is showing me today. The “challenge owner” (is that the same thing?) is now listed as ivanbranco, but that might change / be incorrect.
