MapRoulette challenges for Univeristy of Oslo and the communityu

Subject: New MapRoulette Challenges for Norway: Community & Oslo University Collaboration

Hello OpenStreetMap Norway,

We’re excited to announce two new MapRoulette challenges designed for both the community and University of Oslo students (who are taking an GIS and an OSM course)! TomTom is promoting OSM as an accessible open mapping platform and these challenges offer an easy starting point.

We’ll have on-site support and experienced mappers to ensure quality and provide guidance during the university editing party tomorrow. Please avoid completing the challenges before tomorrow.
In addition, tutorials were made handy for the new joiners to watch and review before, during and after the event, it can be found here: https://we.tl/t-BIIL6YbdPm

Your feedback and support are greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Salim and Kristian

I kindly ask you to not run challenge 2. All schools have already been imported into OSM, and we update them annually. If you run the challenge, many schools will get duplicated names (same name on multiple objects). Instead, what is needed is to delete the duplicate amenity=school tag.

no worries, I will hide the challenge, thank you for the attention. @NKA

Continuing in English: I checked one of the tasks in the challenge, and it was the the typical case where the amenity=school was duplicated because someone has added an area for the school. Moving the school information from the node to the area, makes a lot of sense to me - seeing the school ground as an area is useful.

I assume you don’t object to this type of edit?

Slightly off-topic: JOSM iD displays this warning when editing schools:

Adding Wikidata is an obvious improvement, but changing from public to goverment may conflict with the automatic update? Or could the update be modified?

Yes, moving school tagging to an area around the perimeter of the school is fine. Tagging on the building tends to lead to duplication (because there are often more than one building), so that should be avoided.

I have found that tagging on one node works best because users in iD can quickly see them, but using the outer perimeter is the general wiki recommendation, I think.

In a few cases there are two different schools within the same perimeter, which is handled well by using two nodes.

thank you @hansfn !
@NKA : shall i keep the challenge only for you and @hansfn and hide it from the school students?

@hansfn: You seem interested - great if you would like to fix these issues.
