The DWG have had a message come in from Vic DTP re changes to the mapping of the levels & layers of various Metro stations around Melbourne:
“ recently changed the levels on our entire new Metro Tunnel tracks to a -4, where we had different levels of -2 at Anzac, -4 Town Hall, -3 State Library, -2 Parkville & -2 Arden. This now means that systems no longer snap station points to tracks which results in our maps losing their track geometry.”
When asked about the actual levels of the tunnels,- are they all the same depth or varying?:
“It is not the depth of the tunnels, but the levels, e.g. how many flights down there are. Anzac has 2 flights down, while Town Hall has 4 flights down. Our platforms should match the levels for the tracks, thankfully hasn’t changed the platform levels yet as this would prevent our https://transport.vic.gov.au/journey from locating the platform.”
Hmm, I’m not sure that is how you define level. Most buildings have at least two flights of stairs between floors, so applying that logic I’d get level=2, level=4, etc.
If I enter a station from ground level the first place I can get out of the lift, or stop going the stairs/escalators would be level=-1 regardless of how many flights of stairs I went down.
As to tagging the railway line with level, that should only be on the sections accessible from the platforms.
EDIT:
I just checked the wiki article for Anzac Station. I would be tagging street level 0, concourse -1, and the platforms -2. Town Hall is maybe -4 or -5 for the platforms depending on how you count B1M.
Perhaps when they said “flights” that’s not what they meant?
