Hello everyone. Recently, two anti-choking/airway-clearance devices were added inside a shopping mall I know, just next to the two defibrillators that were already available there. I wanted to know your opinions on this matter, especially on how to tag them and creating a consensus.
I don’t know the popularity of these devices, but I see them as another important emergency device, such as defibrillators. I’ve done a quick and superficial research and found out that, despite they do not replace traditional practices, like the Heimlich maneuver, or calling an ambulance, they represent an useful option also.
I’ve also found out that they are referred to using diverse terms, being the two most common ones “anti-choking device” and “airway-clearance device”. The first seems to be the most searched for in the internet, while the second one seems to be the most used by specialists. I’ve only found “anti_choking_device” in the database, and just 1 case of it, mapped recently by a fellow mapper.
In this changeset, I added these 2 devices. I used the tag emergency=anti_choking_device, along with indoor=yes and level=*. For defibrillators, defibrillator:location=* is used, but in this case I decided to use description=* for now to describe where the devices are. I also created this wiki page for this tag, with a description and 3 photographs I took from one of these devices inside the shopping mall.
I’ve searched for this topic both here on the community forum and on the database using TagInfo and found no information. Please tell me if this has been already talked about. And that’s all. I’d like to hear your opinions. Naturally, the tag name is provisional. I’ll keep up with this topic so I can update everything later, in case we arrive to a different name, or feel free to edit what I wrote on the wiki and in my changeset. Happy mapping
