Mapbox organized editing, Missing Roads in Taiwan

Hello, OSM community of Taiwan!

Our team has been mapping missing roads since May 2024, as described here: Mapbox Organized Editing, Missing Roads

This project has been a success, and we are expanding the effort to Taiwan. We’re sharing notice here to ensure that OSM community of Taiwan has adequate notice, consistent with the Organised Editing Guidelines.

Hi Natallia

I doubt any new roads can be added in the big city, maybe some service road if you have telemetry data. If you just want as many roads added as possible, you can start from Changhua, Yunlin, or Chiayi because there are not many mappers in these areas.

Be aware of false positives of dry creeks recognized as roads in the mountain areas.

The overall satellite image of Taiwan is not quite up to date, mostly 3 to 4 years old. If you run into something on the satellite but there are other things that exist on the map data, please ask the local mappers for verification.

Supaplex

Hello, Supaplex,
Thank you for your interest in our mapping initiative and for providing valuable recommendations. We appreciate your input and will incorporate it into our mapping activity. To ensure the highest accuracy in OSM edits, we will refrain from making modifications where sufficient evidence is lacking and will collaborate with your community to resolve any ambiguities.

Hi Natasha

There are more reliable sources to use in Taiwan; for example, the NLSC Open Data map to track basic road networks or waterways.

We suggest using NLSC Open Data to align the road networks.

Supaplex

Hello, Supaplex,
Thank you for the suggestion and for pointing us to the NLSC Open Data source. We will take a look at it and consider using it to align the road networks in Taiwan.
