Mapbox organized editing, Missing Roads in Poland

Hello, OSM community of Poland!

Our team has been mapping missing roads since May 2024, as described here: Mapbox Organized Editing, Missing Roads

This project has been a success, and we are expanding the effort to European countries, including Poland. We’re sharing notice here to ensure that OSM community of Poland has adequate notice, consistent with the Organised Editing Guidelines.

how one may see list of roads detected to be missing in Poland?

Hello, Mateusz!

Thank you for your interest in our mapping activity.

We identify missing roads using mechanisms based on anonymized GPS traces, which are then visualized in our internal tools for manual validation. After validation, we map these missing roads in OSM.

We anticipate having a dataset for Poland available in approximately one week and will be able to share some examples of missing roads detected by our mechanisms once the data is ready. We are making announcements prior to starting our work in the location.

You can also monitor edits made by our team in Poland using the OSMCha filter, as all our edits are made with the hashtag #mapbox_missing_roads.

Why some examples, not all of them?

Hello, RicoElectrico!
Thank you for your question.

As previously mentioned, upon receiving a dataset containing potentially missing roads, a manual validation process is conducted prior to mapping the identified roads. Consequently, a comprehensive list of observed cases will only be available once the entirety of the dataset validation and mapping of missing roads has been finalized.

As we are currently in the initial stages of the validation process, at this time, I can provide a limited number of examples of the detected missing roads. Here are some of them:

  1. OpenStreetMap (missing roads at the residential area);

  2. OpenStreetMap (missing service roads around a new warehouse);

  3. OpenStreetMap (missing road in the living area).

After we finalize the validation and mapping of the missing roads in Poland, I can share information about the results of our work. If you want to monitor our edits alongside the validation and mapping process, I suggest configuring an OSMCha filter utilizing the hashtag #mapbox_missing_roads and the relevant location. There you will be able to see a full list of our edits as soon as they are made.
