map with large number of POIs

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I registered with the hope to get some help here with my new private map project. I started to create a map with German e-bike charging stations with the new Google Maps engine. But I realized quite soon that it doesn’t work with the limit of 500 POIs per layer I have with the free engine. Since my project is just hobby/noncommercial I don’t want to go with the pro Goggle version and pay for more POIs/layer.
My question now - is it possible with OSM somehow to create a map based on a quite large number of POIs (e-bike charging stations) - let say 2000-3000 points. Every point should have three or four database text fields with description and two or more small pictures. I have no problems with databases like MySQL or PHP programming. Is it possible to present a map based on an online MySQL database or something similar in order to reach my goal? Thanx for any hints!

best,
Mike

To use an OSM slippy map with markers, look at OpenLayers or Leaflet. http://switch2osm.org/using-tiles/

Its possible to use both of these with markers from a database. eg here is an example for OpenLayers: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenLayers_Dynamic_POI

That sounds interesting. The example I found shows a huge number of dynamic POIs with quite good performance. Is there any limit known? From Software or practically?

best,
Mike
