Looking to connect with the Melbourne OSM/GIS community – student seeking collaboration and events!

Hi everyone,

I’m a student from Yokohama National University in Japan, and I’ll be coming to Melbourne this November to study urban planning, with a focus on spatial inequality and the use of GIS in city planning.

While I will be studying at university, I also want to explore Melbourne with my own eyes and understand how the city works – especially in suburban areas. To do this, I would love to get involved in any local OpenStreetMap activities, mapping events, or discussions where I can meet and collaborate with the community.

If there are any upcoming events, workshops, or mapping projects – or if you’re simply interested in connecting and chatting about urban development and mapping – I’d be very grateful to hear from you!

Looking forward to learning and contributing together. Thanks in advance for your support!

Best regards,
Shuya

Hi Shuya and welcome aboard,

You may also like to join the OSM Discord at OpenStreetMap World as there is an Oceania channel in there with a few Aussie regulars.

There is also a Maptime Oceania Slack instance where there are also some regular Aussie participants. Slack

Both instances are quite friendly with folks from many areas of the GIS/Open Source world.

Cheers - Phil
