Logging roads - I have a solution (at least for Quebec)

Hi!

I am very interested by offroad / backcountry motorcycle riding and I am currently relying on my own map systems where I have a fairly accurate representation of logging roads for the Quebec province, Ontario and NB.

I found that they are maintained and published by different gov instances. For example, Quebec publishes under CC-BY 4.0 all their data here:

After running some custom scripts in python and QGIS I built my own maps with Mapbox. Here are some examples:

So my question is, assuming I follow all publication guidelines and set tags properly, should I attempt to publish this information in OSM? On one hand, that would help representing roads in the backcountry. On the other hand, that would represent a LOT of data! There is roughly 1 000 000 road segments in the database.

Again, I would not blindly upload it and make sure it is tagged properly, remove duplicates and set the right attribution credits. But I question is how much should the OSM community care about those roads? Overikill? A benefit?

Is not compatible with the ODbL used by OSM, you would need a special waiver by them to use that as a basis for OSM to make it compatible.

See this blog post for more and guidance: Use of CC BY 4.0 licensed data in OpenStreetMap | OpenStreetMap Blog and here Licence/Waiver and Permission Templates - OpenStreetMap Foundation for a waiver template.

And in general in regard to any larger automatic imports of external data see here about the process: Import/Guidelines - OpenStreetMap Wiki
