Locked Out of uMap Account

I have created multiple maps using uMap with my OpenStreetMap account, but I am no longer able to access the maps to edit them.

I used to log into uMap with my OSM username and password but that no longer works. Unfortunately, I don’t know the email address used to create the account long ago. I have contacted OSM for support but need to get into the account ASAP.

Does anyone have suggestions for how I might access my account or reset the password when I don’t know the email address on the account?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Are you talking about uMap specifically?

Yes, uMap – sorry for not being clear. Post edited.

It sounds like you’ve already tried it but just in case not, the “I’ve forgotten my password” section of the wiki is here.

Thanks! But that only works with an email address, not the username. We had no address associated with the account due to it being created long ago with now deprecated Twitter SSO.

All accounts have an email regardless of if their login is done with a SSO provider or not.

If you don’t know the email or your password all you can do is wait for support. Depending on the particulars of your situation it’s possible that you may not be able to gain access to the account.

Many thanks to @trial for communicating with the uMap team on my behalf, and for providing this fantastic quick fix. For anyone interested, or facing the same issue…

  1. View uMap & click Share
  2. Download Full Backup
  3. Log into working account
  4. Create new map and import

It’s that simple. Hopefully my old account may get restored, but regardless I now have an easy way to rebuild all my maps in my own account.

Cheers to this community!
