Lock areas of a map to prevent editing

I am working with a university and we where thinking of using openStreetmaps as our official online mapping system,
However we cant do this IF the area of the university is open to anyone to edit.

I know this sorta goes against the point of open source but dose anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,
not possible.

Of course, you can download the OSM data for your area and afterwards completely work with this offline data.

And if you want to be able to edit that data afterwards, it would be possible: Either use an offline editor like JOSM or set up your own instance of the OSM database (the latter being a significantly larger effort). And of course all the tools used in the OSM ecosystem - like Mapnik, Leaflet, OpenLayers etc. - are available to you even if you do not use the publicly editable OSM database.
