On the NSI, Ukrainian telecom operator shops (Kyivstar, Vodafone and Lifecell) are currently tagged as shop=mobile_phone. However, these shops mainly focus on services such as Internet contracts, IPTV, streaming services, SIM cards, and mobile/Internet plans. While they do sell some phones, that’s minimal compared to their main purpose.
This is different from a shop=mobile_phone, and matches the description of shop=telecommunication perfectly.
Does the Ukrainian community agree that I update Kyivstar, Vodafone and Lifecell shops from shop=mobile_phone to shop=telecommunication on the NSI, which can then be updated on OSM?
It has been historically tagged like this because mobile_phone is an older tag (and thus more readily available in editors as a preset). But yeah, you are correct, telecommunication fits it better.
Before re-tagging places like telecommunication, it’s essential to verify that they indeed belong to that category. To do this, you should visit the official websites of the telecom operators and check their lists of offices or support centers.
These places not only provide services to customers but sell mobile phones and accessories in most of cases.
Mobile operators do not provide telecommunications services not related to mobile networks in all cities. Then we need to keep shop=telecommunication for the area where they provide other services and shop=mobile_phone for where they do not provide them
Most of these stores operate as franchises. When another company pays for a sign of a well-known brand and most likely receives the main income from the sale of mobile phones

The goal of the mapper is to choose a tag that best describes the object we want to map. Therefore, shop=mobile_phone is the best fit. Shop=telecommunication is about general, it is about any phone, not just a mobile phone: it is also about a satellite phone. Also, Shop=telecommunication is not just about mobile communication, but about any type of telephony. And shop=mobile_phone is only about mobile communication, that is, about those telephony services that are provided by a communication operator.
