On the NSI, Dutch telecom operator shops (KPN, Odido and Vodafone) are currently tagged as shop=mobile_phone. However, these shops mainly focus on services such as Internet contracts, IPTV, streaming services, SIM cards, and mobile/Internet plans. While they do sell some phones, that’s minimal compared to their main purpose.
This is different from a shop=mobile_phone, and matches the description of shop=telecommunication perfectly.
Does the Dutch community agree that I update KPN, Odido and Vodafone shops from shop=mobile_phone to shop=telecommunication on the NSI, which can then be updated on OSM?
Yeah I think that has shifted over the years. They mostly used to sell phones in those stores, but nowadays they just put 4 or so iPhones on display and only sell telcom stuff. If you are suggesting a mechanical edit, I’d wait for more people on this thread, but in general I think the rule Any tags you like - OpenStreetMap Wiki applies
Yep, I asked the same question on different communities and I’ll wait a few days for more people to give their opinion, but in general everyone seems to agree.
I agree shop=telecommunication describes these stores much better than shop=mobile_phone.
Besides updating the NSI I suggest we change these tags on all stores with brand-tag KPN, Odido, Vodafone and VodafoneZiggo mechanically in one edit. That’d be better than a one-by-one changes through iD-suggestions.
Caution is allways wise Peter so i surveyed the KPN stores map
On that map you can see 3 types of stores:
As example KPN-winkel (smallest store type) in Haarlem which does more then just only sell smartphones as product & service.
Can not imagine this is different in other cities…
For KPN therefore you can conclude as answer to your question: no
A67-A67 & Peter_Elderson, same answer for: Odido stores & Vodafone/VodafoneZiggo stores (you are via the VodafoneZiggo site redirected to Vodafone store selector to find the stores of VodafoneZiggo).
Even if there is 1 or 2 stores in the Netherlands to be found differently it does not justify: shop=mobile_phone because then it only represents 0.01% or so stores instead of 99.99% shop=telecommunications.
?? based on ?
It sells in the stores not only smartphones but also other services and that fits shop=telecommunication more then shop=mobile_phone is my opinion.
No there is 1 store carrying both brands & also brand: Hollands nieuwe

New organizational structure and brand focus
Since July 1, VodafoneZiggo has been operating with a new organizational structure designed to increase agility and enable more effective collaboration. “By simplifying our organization and opting for specialized teams per brand—Ziggo, Vodafone, and hollandsnieuwe—that manage the entire process from product design to delivery, we can respond more quickly to customer needs and market developments,” says Drost.

Vodafone main focus is on telecommunication via mobile internet
Ziggo focus is on telecommunication by there own copper-cable network & newly via Fibre optic (using Delta’s fiber optic network).
KPN, Odido and Vodafone have now been migrated on the NSI to shop=telecommunication. I will update them accordingly, making sure to link this thread to avoid confusion. Thanks for the community’s feedback.
However, I’m still not sure of the whole VodafoneZiggo story, so I added it to the generic Vodafone entry. Are Vodafone stores in the Netherlands only branded as “Vodafone”, e.g is only the Vodafone logo displayed? Or is it VodafoneZiggo?
This answer seems to imply that there’s only 1 store branded VodafoneZiggo, but on Google Maps I can only find recent pictures of VodafoneZiggo stores (pictures below from Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague):
Yes, I would be in favour to that to create ‘VodafoneZiggo’-stores because Vodafone & Ziggo did a joint-venture years back and therefore no seperate Ziggo- or Vodafone-stores are existing anymore.
If they exist with there seperate names in OSM within NL-boundary as name-key they are really outdated !
The definitions are now more clear to my opinion & maybe 1 suggestion to add to make the shop=mobile_phone more distinguishable to shop=telecommunication: not only sells mobile_phones but also optionally repairs and/or sells refurbished mobile_phones ?
