& 2. reda in regionalke 1. & 2. reda vse postanejo primary
- regionalke 3. reda postanejo secondary
Hi!
I have to admit that part of this mess was caused by me - mainly inner-city roads in Ljubljana. I retagged a couple of roads by function rather than official classification.
Ljubljana
- Large main roads connecting the city centre with the obvoznica: primary. (Dunajska, Štajerska, Šmartinska, Zaloška, Dolenjska, Barjanska, Tržaška, Celovška)
- City centre ring: primary
- Other large main roads: secondary
- Roads that “drain” traffic from a neighbourhood to a main road: tertiary.
Before I did this, there were very few tertiary and not many primary roads. I felt the was lost potential for differentiation because the full classification spectrum offered by OSM was only sparsely made use of.
I guess it comes down to the question “What’s the main purpose of the road classification?”. I was working under the assumption that the main application is routing. But there are probably other purposes which can be argued to be just as important (for which a strict 1:1 mapping from official classification may be better suited).

I think cities are a completely different topic - I am more interested in roads outside cities (maybe I should state that in my first post). As you say - yes first of all is routing and I agree with that, but national classification is kinda how roads should be used, you really don’t want people using a road which cannot support large traffic.
As for the cities I think that is not a problem we know that some streets are more important than the others and that classification is fine in my opinion.

Great. I didn’t mess around outside cities as far as I remember.
