JOSM BuildingTools plugin help

I’ve been using the JOSM BuildingTools, and I’m finding that the first mouse click sometimes gives me a complete polygon instead of the first point of the dynamic polygon as designed. This is most prominent with the rectangle tool. When this happens, I have to select the nodes and drag them into the proper locations and then square the corners with Q. It’s happening often enough that it’s causing me a lot of extra work. Is this a known problem, and if so, is there a solution? I’m using building_tools ver 36474. Thank you.

According to the plugin’s wiki page, there is a one-click mode:

One click drawing: By default circles can be created by simply clicking, dragging, and releasing, because they have neither an orientation nor aspect ratio. For rectilinear shapes, If either the Building Width/Diameter parameter is set to a non zero-value, or elements that can be aligned to are selected before mapping the next shape, it is possible to create them using just one click.

But I think you would have had to dig around in menus to activate that. To be clear, it literally only takes you one click to make a rectangle? Because it sounds like you might be accidentally engaging two-click mode:

Two-click building drawing mode: If selected way is orthogonalized or drawn using BuildingTools, 2-click building drawing mode is enabled, which allows for an even quicker mapping of buildings sets by just clicking on two corners of the new building. Selecting "Auto-select building" option in settings helps to use it most effectively when mapping a lot of buildings.

I’ve also had irritation with accidentally having ways selected while trying to make a new building. All you need to do is pay attention and deselect other objects when you don’t want your building to be aligned with them.

Thank you, Juan. I didn’t know about one-click mode. I have been drawing circles using two clicks and rectangles using three clicks. Knowing that I can left-click and drag to the second rectangle corner (or circle diameter) should fix my problem. I appreciate the help. I’ll also experiment with “Auto-select building” now that I know how to find the building_tools settings menu.
