I spotted amenity=food_sharing which is in relatively wide use, seems to make sense but is not included in for example iD presets.
I am considering making PR to add it - would it be bad idea for some reason?
I am asking as it was suggested to me to ask on forum before making a PR to tagging presets.
Note: feel free to make a PR for it in iD presets, I am not reserving it. At the current rate if I will get around doing it by 2027 things went well.

Label in id presets would be probably “Food sharing location”, though I am looking for a better term. for a better term? “Food sharing location” can be understood of place where you cam dropoff food that will be distributed by someone somewhere else and amenity=food_sharing implies that it can be also picked up

I’m not sure whether this tag is a good idea or not. There’s potentially some overlap / potential confusion with amenity=social_facility + social_facility=food_bank.
If it does get added to iD, I think we should make sure Food Bank is suggested as well with any search terms that trigger food sharing.
In general, though, given the abilty of iD presets to skew tagging practices, I think it’s dangerous to be adding presets for tags that are just “in use” rather than “de facto” or “approved”. It would be better to go through the approval process for the tag first, to ensure it is what the community wants.

It’s worth looking at how and where it is used. Worldwide, it’s in some countries, and not others. Looking at an area with 255 in, 65 are unnamed. 7 are also social_facility (mostly food banks).
It doesn’t seem to make sense to add it as worldwide preset. If it is added anywhere, it needs to guide the user towards the correct tagging, which where “free food is available” will often be something else.
