I am aware that default presets for JOSM live in the defaultpresets.xml inside the .jar . I am also aware that JOSM allows enabling additional presets, either hosted on JOSM Trac or external.
When adding such presets, they are displayed in addition to those included in defaultpresets. For example, if a 3D Simple buildings preset is enabled, a building=* object will display two matching presets in Tags/Memberships, as seen in this screenshot.
Is it possible to override defaultpresets with an optional preset so that it will be displayed instead of the default one, not in addition to it? To clarify, I know that I can contribute to defaultpresets and thus change the “core” preset of JOSM. The question is not about it. The question is, can I make JOSM display a matching preset from a custom module but not display the vanilla one?
Alternatively, can a custom preset “inject” new fields or “modify” existing fields in the default preset without adding a new preset entry on top of the Tags/Memberships?
One of the reasons: if a custom preset merely adds a single field to fill for an object to the already existing ones, we now have two nearly identical presets shown in Tags/Memberships. If a user installed such a preset, they may want to use it instead of the vanilla one, in which case the vanilla one merely consumes space in the window and distracts from the “right” one, the one that we want to click. Less of a ‘must’, more of a usability issue.
