We can start tagging these as building=kiosk
+ amenity=police
. Inspired by Tag:historic=police_call_box - OpenStreetMap Wiki
We need a tagging scheme for government quarters/military quarters
We can start tagging these as
building=kiosk
+amenity=police
.
around here we also have these. I would not add amenity=police because it is for a police station. I would probably neither add building=kiosk because the kiosks I usually tag are much bigger, and these shelters aren’t set up for providing retail services, as is suggested by the wiki, but I agree it could be discussed.
amenity=police
might be iffy, but building=kiosk
is correct. Tag:building=kiosk - OpenStreetMap Wiki
Is there a problem with tagging them like any other gated community?
amenity=police
might be iffy, butbuilding=kiosk
is correct. Tag:building=kiosk - OpenStreetMap Wiki
while there is some overlap I don’t think the description fits particularly well, and there is also a picture which gives a different impression.
For reference, here is an older thread about the same topic (I think) https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/guard-posts-and-police-cabinets/1962/1
For those traffic police booths/shelters I think we should have something specific, maybe even under the highway key.
As stated in that thread, its not clear why we would want a new tag, especially when these structures are usually designed to be rest places for police, rather than places from which they conduct surveillance. On rare occasions they may have the manual controls for the signals at the junction, but usually they’re just a rectagular or cyclidrical structure designed for 1 or more police officers to take rest in. building=kiosk
more than adequately describes the function of building. IMHO we should instead focus on the tag that describes the police presence best.
I prefer something other than =kiosk
as that feels bigger (shopkeeper can move around vs the guard can’t inside a booth much), but I oppose to =guardhouse
there more. It is confusing function with structure, expressing both poorly. For the structure, it is used for anything from large proper buildings, to such small booths, meaning it’s very imprecise and inaccurate. For the function, as we face here, they are not limited to guards. There is amenity=security
instead that can get any security=
needed, perhaps differentiating =checkpoint
from resting booths on patrols and monitoring booths (not actively serving as a checkpoint at access points) is also possible. Proposal:Security guard - OpenStreetMap Wiki
There are some =security_booth
, as well as a few =toll_booth
and =ticket_booth
. The =booth
with number between them would be use-neutral, focusing on the structure.
If a highway=
feature is desired, it should not be limited to police. There are various facilities used to control traffic. Such booths may be served by non-police employees. My interest is in tunnel and toll road control facilities.
As I may have suggested previously, police=
is fine for these. Although the wiki description may not be the best now, it is already used for =checkpoint
, similar enough to these.
I agree that guardhouse is not suitable for traffic control police booths. I mainly linked the other discussion because of the picture, but it was actually about 2 different features (albeit similar looking).
There’s shops which does that exclusively, and shops which does it on the side. As such, I believe it should be a service:*
tag instead (for most of the CSCs and similar stores can be tagged as shop=copyshop
).
Here’s another one, suggested by @Projjal
Murti, also known as Idols, are a key element of worshipping in Hinduism. The following set of tags are for Shilpins, aka Pal in Bengali (Bengali: পাল):
craft=sculptor
product=idol
idol:material=*
idol:permanent=*
Where,
-
idol:material=*
implies the material using which the idols are crafted.- The values could be
concrete
,clay
,terracotta
,marble
,granite
,wood
or anything else that the idol is made out of. If the idolmaker specialises in making idols in more than 1 material, the other values are to be added with a semicolon (“;”).
- The values could be
-
idol:permanent=*
implies whether the idolmaker crafts only temporary idols (for occassions like Durga Puja, Vasant Panchami etc.) or lasting ones.- The values could be a simple
yes
orno
, but if the idolmaker specialises in making both, then the value could beboth
. Otherwise, if they only make permanent/lasting idols, the value could beonly
.
- The values could be a simple
Requesting for comments from the rest of the Indian and South Asian communities. CCing @contrapunctus, @uknown-gryphus, @Vonter
We can also use the tag for idols inside hindu temples. Could be helpful for indoor mapping inside temples.
product=idol
resembles pop stars, for their souvenir and “goods”. Eg clothes=
obviously doesn’t mean traditional or holy ones. clothes=costumes;theater;hats;shoes;uniforms;burning_man;parties;men;women;children;unisex;idol;stage;cosplay;takenokozoku;harajuku_street_style;lolita;punk | Tags | OpenStreetMap Taginfo
statue=
is standard in both =artwork
and =memorial
. Considering the hundred of statue=buddha
, you could start statue=murti
directly. statue=buddha | Tags | OpenStreetMap Taginfo
There are other ideas for =religious_figure
(although I don’t see why it shouldn’t be =religious
) Talk:Key:statue - OpenStreetMap Wiki
product=
basically depends on how it should be used. It was fiercely debated in =works
and industrial=
for whether it should be generic or specific, and how detailed. A =sculptor
may specialize in =statue
, general =sculpture
, =bust
, =relief
, or =installation
, in artwork_type=
terms; and =stele
in memorial=
perhaps.
On other craft=
, eg carpenter=
may be used. Unfortunately sculptor=
is mostly names now. sculptor | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo
In any case, can add religion=hindu
