Intro to OpenStreetMap.org Operations - Getting involved - 27 September 2025

Join me on Saturday, 27 September 2025 at 13:00 UTC (14:00 BST) for a short, technical introduction to how the OpenStreetMap.org Operations Team runs the project’s infrastructure.

I’ll cover our architecture and tooling, how we test and deploy changes, and practical ways you can contribute (SRE, networking, Chef/OpenTofu, CI, monitoring, etc).

Open to all.

Please say if you will be attending here: Intro to OpenStreetMap.org Operations - Getting involved | OpenStreetMap Calendar

5 posts were split to a new topic: OSM US MWG questions

From “Getting involved” title it looks like it is directed at potential volunteers, rather than at people curious how osm.org runs from technical side.

Is it right?

If yes, what are minimal qualification to be useful? For example is “I am not scared by Linux CLI and can SSH into server” is enough or do you need to be highly experienced sysadmin to be useful?

Not sure at the moment. I will record the session, but may delay the public release of the recording until after my related State of the Map EU talk.

I believe there a question about Prometheus Dashboard meanings of various graphs for tile servers that wasn’t answered fully but a followup was promised; so I’d be interested in that one too. (Just mentioning it so it isn’t forgotten)

Thanks for the informative talk!

It would be nice to publish video recordings

Here is the recording: Playback

The recording isn’t perfect, there is a fair bit of lag in the video and a few spots where I accidentially didn’t share my screen. Hope the recording is useful.
