Information about OSM in Spain

Hi,

I have now completed adding all of our locations in the Netherlands to OpenStreetMap. It is planned that our other departments in different countries will also be added over time.

While working on the Dutch locations, I received helpful guidance from the Dutch community. Since I am now moving on to locations in Spain, I was advised to ask here whether there are any country-specific considerations that should be taken into account for the Spanish market.

To start with, I have created the location shown in the changeset below:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/183878372

Could you please let me know if this location has been mapped correctly according to the conventions used in Spain, or if anything should be done differently? If there are any specific guidelines or practices for Spain that differ from those used in the Netherlands, I would be very grateful for your advice.

I have created a new topic for this question, as I am a new user and am no longer able to post in the previous topic.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Some improvements I see:
addr:city=Almeria should be addr:city=Almería
addr:housenumber=Nº59 should be addr:housenumber=59
addr:street=Ctra. Nacional 340, Km.446 should be addr:street=Carretera de Granada to match the OSM street name. The milestone info would be lost, but a given place should only have one addr:housenumber or an addr:milestone. Both at the same time is incorrect.
I would add the branch’s specific email address, not a generic brand email.
Should the name/brand be Oscar Alquiler de Coches or Oscar? I see Alquiler de Coches as redundant, and a description, not something that should be added to name. It is already understood to be a car rental location from its tagging.
operator should be Oscar Autoverhuur B.V., unless there is a Spanish subsidiary that operates the facility, or a different operating company.

Apart from that, it looks ok.
I also suggest adding the brand to NSI, so its tagging can be standardized across locations.

Optionally you could get rid of all addr:* tags in case it’d be overkill to match exactly with OSM addresses, but it’s up to you.

Operator would be as @Robot8A mentions, but IMHO, it doesn’t worth to add it.

name and brand are just Oscar, like the website; Alquiler de Coches is useless.

Hi @Robot8A ,

I am not sure what you mean by that, as I do not have any addr:milestone tag and only one addr:housenumber tag. Therefore, I am not sure what is incorrect about it.

When you say “I would” regarding the email, is that something I need to do, or is it merely a recommendation? We have a customer service department that covers all areas of the business, so it would not make sense for us to handle inquiries in that way.

Regarding your question about whether Oscar Alquiler de Coches or Oscar is our brand name, I can confirm that our brand name is Oscar Alquiler de Coches.

As for the operator, it is Oscar Alquiler de Coches, not Oscar Autoverhuur B.V., as our Spanish subsidiary operates the business and also has its headquarters in Málaga.

P.S. When I tried searching for our brand name using the NSI link you provided, no results were returned.

I look forward to hearing your explanation.

Have a nice day!

Hi @Hugoren_Martinako ,

I really dont understand, why i should delete all the addr:* tags, is that not creating a problem when other services are collecting the OSM map data?

Looking forward to hearing from you?

Hi,

I think that if you have address data that you have verified as accurate
then you should definitely add it to the points you have created. There
is no guarantee that the buildings where these businesses are located
exist in OSM, or that where they exist they have correct address
information associated. Many points end up located inside a different
building. In my opinion we should not be obliging end users of OSM data
to be learning specialist skills on associating points of interest with
address data - OSM is not a normalized database and is not intended to
be used just by those with geospatial skills. So if someone just wants
to download car rental businesses in a country or region they should be
able to get the address information (where available) together with
those points. Disk space is not an issue, and if it becomes one we do
what other open community projects like Wikipedia do and put our hands
in our pockets to pay for more. So please feel free to add the accurate
information you have.

It was just a suggestion in case of matching your offices addresses with the OSM data would be a pain in the ass.

Example: if an address looks like Calle Demo but in OSM is called Calle de Demo, you should introduce this second one. That implies to refactor your address data to fulfill this requirement.

Ctra. Nacional 340, Km.446 refers to the National Road 340, kilometer 446.
The kilometer would be mapped in OSM as addr:milestone=446. However, no addr:housenumber and addr:milestone should be present simultaneously.

Regarding NSI, indeed, it is not present as no one has added the brand to it so far.

@Robot8A

Thank you for the very useful answer, I will make sure to do that from now on.
