Imports by marshkun/Palpitate0029 in Belo Horizonte

There is a meanwhile-deleted user (“marshkun”, “Palpitate0029”) who has performed a couple of imports in 2022 in Belo Horizonte using data from the web site BH Map - Visualizador

(~ 170,000 street lamps).

I am unsure if the source is acceptable license-wise, but the “Pode haver disparidades com a realidade, e estas terão de ser corrigidas” alone would normally be enough to revert the import. Opinions?

Hi Frederik,

Thanks for your concerns! Let me answer it bit by bit:

  • Licensing: that’s fine, I talked to that municipality myself and got explicit permission: File:Autorização BHGeo.png - OpenStreetMap Wiki

  • Contacting: as far as I remember, this import was not discussed

  • Data quality: the data from this municipality is usually very good. I just look randomly some imported bus stops and it seems they exist (comparing to street imagery)

  • It seems the street lamps import was reverted back then (but not the bus stops one)

So, in the end, even if the imports were not carried out as it should (following the guidelines), what we have right now on OSM (bus stops) seems coherent with reality, and the municipality allows us to use their data as well.
