Identifying Excess Energy Generation in Power Plants on Open Infra Maps?

Hi all,

I’m researching a particular power plant and am curious how to find the excess energy that it may be producing. When I click on the power plant in question in Open Infra Map, and then “More Info” is the difference between Total Output and Output the excess energy??

What is the best way to obtain info about excess energy that is produced? Should I just contact them directly? I’d would also like to find historical records for such info.

I thought this might be Public Record but am having trouble finding anything about it.

Thanks

Total Output is just output multiplied by count.

It’s showing that there’s 4 gas generators outputting 174MW each (for a sum of 696MW), plus 2 gas generators outputting 268MW each (for a sum of 536MW) leading to a total output of 1232MW for the plant as a whole.

A couple of tips @bcw123:

  1. Start by learning the difference between MW and MWh (instantaneous power, energy ‘volume’).
  2. Make sure you know what you mean by excess power and define it when asking for help
  3. Look somewhere other than OSM as we don’t record MWh generation output. Try the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) as your starting point - they might publish this data.
