I believe there is a need for a feature that allows posts shared within local communities to be recommended or shared with the broader community when they are considered valuable. While I’m not sure if this functionality can be implemented on the Discourse platform, one idea could be a system where users can “recommend” a post, similar to a ‘+1’ button. Once the number of recommendations reaches a certain threshold, the post could be displayed on the main screen of the broader community, beyond its local community.
To elaborate further, my idea is to have a mechanism similar to the way the latest posts from each category are shown. Only posts that have been recommended would be aggregated and displayed on the main page of the forum, giving them visibility across different communities.
Recently, I’ve become interested in various cultural and regional topics, which led me to explore several local communities. Some of these communities are very isolated in their activities, and I feel there should be more opportunities for people to share and communicate beyond their own region. I am concerned that such isolated activities could become more fragmented, much like the unique ecosystems of the Galápagos Islands, leading to a lack of broader exchange.
If this happens, it could result in the fragmentation of OSM over time.
Even if we don’t implement a button for this, I hope we can find better ways to address this issue and share any ideas we might have.
