iD editor showing map scale only in feet

The map at www.openstreetmap.org shows both metric and imperial map scales. (bottom left).

The map inside the iD editor shows a map scale in feet only.
Preferences inside iD editor has no setting regarding measurement units.
Preferences in my account has no setting regarding measurement units.

How can I get the map scale indicator in metric?

Thank you.

Lost for words…

There’s a Show measurement panel and when selected it shows a Metric box. When clicking that it changes for me to imperial (ft), but the left bottom slide bar is stuck for me in meters.

Click the scale to toggle between feet and meters.

Oh come on - how on earth is that supposed to be discoverable?

It isn’t, but clicking on it works, unlike the other answer. This issue is probably relevant to getting a more discoverable preference.

Changing from Metric to Imperial is in JOSM hitting the ruler icon on status bar. Then a balloon pops up to tell…

That’s positive feedback :o))

In ID did hit the slider, vaguely remembering, while in 30m zoom, the slider shifted and 100 appeared. Since eye cant read small print well anymore, thought the 100 was still meters, but now looking with face on screen can see the small ft, Lol.

Thank you. I never would have guessed.
