I made easy_openstreetmap, a project to make custom maps easier to create

I have spent a pretty large amount of time to create my own custom map with mapnik recently, and it was pretty annoying, as you have to use a large amount of projects to do so. And it was not easier because I also wanted elevation curves. To make this easier for myself and others in the future, I have during the last few days created https://github.com/noakodaren/easy_openstreetmap.

This project uses nix to easily install nix5, cartocss, postgresql, pyhgtmap, and a few other projects. I also used gnu make instead of a normal shell script to make small changes to the map easier to handle.

I am hoping that this project can be useful to other people wanting to customize their maps easily, so please tell me what you think! If this is useful, maybe it can be linked from https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_on_Paper to increase discoverability?

Finally, here is a ski piste map of Hemsedal I generated with this (see https://github.com/noakodaren/openstreetmap-maps for license and attribution):

Yes, that is what this is. I tried using some of these, but they weren’t quite flexible enough for me, and it always feels a little bit wrong to use someone else’s server. My tool in contrast is made to run locally.
