How to tag surface= for composite wood material

I’m trying to figure out how I should tag a deck/boardwalk with a composite/fake wood surface. I currently set it to surface=composite but I was wondering if there was a better tag for it.

Here’s a picture of the surface (sorry, not very close up)

The correct term for this stuff should be wood plastic composite (WPC) and according to taginfo this has been used as value for surface 1 time so far. More common is surface=composite with 137 uses so I’d say your tagging is ok.

surface=composite is not clear at all as it may be anything, including unpaved surface

is it made out of plastic? maybe surface=plastic would fit (I used it for some surfaces made out of recycled plastic, barely pretending to be a wood)

click the link and you can read all the details in Wikipedia.

“Composite” is a quite common term for this stuff whereas in most cases I know it is described as WPC. The 100% correct tag would be

surface=wood_plastic_composite

I’d say, used 1x so far.

the problem is that “composite” is also widely (and correctly) used for many other composites, including ones likely to be used for surface.

I’m not 100% certain that it is wood plastic composite, it could just be plastic that is made to look like wood. I’m not sure what I could check to fully distinguish the two. It does look like wood plastic composite to me though.

If it looks like fake wood it should be WPC. Creating such fake planks of 100% plastic would be more expensive without any benefit and most manufacturers avoid wasting money for nothing.
