How to tag POI for Tree Services?

How to tag tree service? Basically a gardener but specializes in just trees.

There’s a few possible options I’ve found so far.

  • craft=tree_service
  • craft=tree_surgeon
  • craft=arborist

Overture categorizes it under the name tree services.

I think with so few of them are mapped that any reasonable tag should work.

I don’t think using hierarchy with gardener is the right move here. In the cases I’ve found gardening and tree service are more adjacent to each other rather than trees being a gardening specialization. A tree service location is not going to mow your grass in the same way a gardner won’t go up 10 meters to trim a tree.

I’m pretty set on using key craft=* (KISS philosophy in play) really just wondering what the consensus is for what value to use. That and would arborist be distinctly separate from tree services or would it be considered to be the same?

Since its a craft, I would go with the specialist word craft=arborist. For craftspeople that are not true arborists, people can use gardener=tree_trimming instead.

I actually checked the definition of the word ‘arborist’ and it isn’t the same thing. Arborists are ‘whole of tree life’ specialists, whereas tree surgeons are more ‘just cut parts of it off’.

  • gardener=tree_trimming : Only one task. Doesn’t cover it all.
  • craft=arborist : The problem is there are independent/unaffiliated/consulting arborists, vs tree services company arborists / companies with arborist, so there’s still a need in a feature for the latter eg with arborist=yes (I doubt whether office=arborist for the former suffices)

Inventing gardener=tree_service would be 3 levels if need to distinguish =trimming etc in tree_service=
