How to tag non-school county owned land?

I’m updating Note: 5524483 | OpenStreetMap and so I’m updating the school grounds area but the stadium is still county-owned land and instead of using a commercial area or similar, is there a way to tag it has county owned and operated (other than tagging the operator of the stadium?

I think operator:type = government in addition to operator= whatever you call the county government. The school would similarly have operator:type=public with Dekalb County Schools or the like.

Feedback (ignore anything you think is irrelevant):

  1. This relation is crazy. :) Relation: 144261 | OpenStreetMap Breaking it into more manageable sizes would be good. As it stands, it includes some residential areas, railway lands(!), schools and parks, but excludes other residential areas, schools and parks.
  2. I have no idea what this is: Way: 34845072 | OpenStreetMap
  3. The stadium and its car park still have operator=DeKalb County School District.
  4. Might sport=athletics;american_football be more accurate?
  5. Instead of landuse=commercial, the tag leisure=stadium is sufficient.
  6. In the school, there are several paths that are mapped like this: Way History: 1543940036 | OpenStreetMap and this: Way: 1543940026 | OpenStreetMap - this doesn’t look right. Are these outdoor covered walkways?
  7. You might check access permissions across the site. Are pedestrians banned from the fire access road? Way: 1557319164 | OpenStreetMap

  1. As DCSD is a county/government operator, it seems a better tag than DeKalb County as a whole as the DCSD department probably actually manages the stadium.
  2. The stadium is tagged as such.
  3. I updated the school grounds area and tagged the stadium as an area instead of a point.
  4. I did the path mapping when I got back into mapping 2-ish months ago and wasn’t experienced enough with OSM to have the right tagging (The Museum School which is close to this school has a bunch of mapping issues, specifically paths, from stuff I did in early 2026. I’ll take a look at the paths to see how it should be updated, but yes its a walkway thats covered by a roof.
  5. The fire lane is narrow enough where it’s used as a one way road (from the school to the road) but it’s technically not. The access permission of the road by the school is unclear, students will walk/drive through it to leave the school but I assume it’s a private road where no one should actually go but I’m unsure about that.
  6. I don’t really know how to map the bleachers and I’m waiting on the dimensions of the stadium from a FOIA request I did to DeKalb County. I’ll make a note and see if someone more experienced with that type of path/walkway mapping can fix it.
