How to tag building access for a specific group only

Hi, access to this shelter is restricted for everybody except canoeists only (if you know Swedish see this image). It is part of a canoeing center, but it doesn’t limit access to customers and I would not read this as access=private. How would you tag this?

I would say either =private or =permit?

access=customers is a common option, otherwise access=permit is regarded as more allowed than access=private.

According to the sign you neither need to be a customer nor do you need a permit for a 1-night stay. All you need is a canoe. Is there a way to do this along the line of access=yes + access:conditional=canoeist ?

access=permit doesn’t mean you need to have a permit. I’d give the wiki page for the access tag a read to see which of permit vs private matches.

It does sound more like access=permit from what you’ve described.

I had read the wiki beforehand and in my view that doesn’t fit. The situation seems to match the description of an exemption: " an exemption allows certain users to use an element that is forbidden for that mode of traffic" but “exemption” doesn’t seem to be a tag.

You can also check out https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org to see what other common tags there are for access=.

I’d still say out of the main options, permit fits the most, there might be options to detail it out more that TagInfo could help you find.

Thanks for the reminder for taginfo! I"ll use
access=permit
access:permit=canoeists

Thanks!

in analogy to employees, students, etc.
