English: “Waste-Rubble-Container”
Usually in industrial districts, there exist companies that specialize in supplying a container somewhere for construction rubble, bulk waste or other waste and taking care of disposing of it when it is full. Such containers are a common sight at any construction site, especially where something is demolished.
Now, the one million dollar question: How to map this? I do not even have an idea how this kind of company is called in English, which would be a start.
The big metsl containers you could go in are generally called “skips” in British English. Americans might call them dumpsters.
I would expect this facility to be tagged as “skip hire” but taginfo suggests this only as naptan:Landmark=SKIP␣HIRE which is from a bus stop import.
If coining a new tag my gut instinct would be amenity=skip_hire. But it might also make sense to align more with how we tag the ones for general waste (normally a bit smaller).
In general I would not map them as these are inherently temporary and for internal use only.
I would just map landuse=construction
Or maybe there are some that allow public use?

“Container hire” on the other hand returns results for shipping containers, e.g. https://www.containerhireco.com/
Not so sure about amenity, after all, it is not primarily something for the end consumer but mostly B2B. (But I do not have an idea for an alternative.)
I would not say that. Anyone in need of such a skip can rent one and many private persons do. I have used such already a couple of times. The problem here again is the inaccuracy of OSM tags. Commercial rental companies are sometimes tagged as amenities (car rental, boat rental, bicycle rental) and sometimes as shop=rental:
A shop that rents different kinds of vehicles or (sport) equipment
For me such a business is more a shop then an amenity, so I support
Eigentlich sollte man das nicht als “Shop” abbilden. Da ist ja kein “Laden”, wo man hingeht und einen Container mietet. Man ruft eher bei einer Firma an, die den Container dann vorbeibringt.
Es ist auch kein “amenity”, sonst könnte man jedwedes Bauunternehmen ebenfalls so taggen.
Passend ist einzig “Firma” (office=*).
Daher besser
office=rental
rental=*
oder so ähnlich.
Ich würde den Unterschied als zweitrangig betrachten. Es gibt eine Menge “shops”, wo man nicht hingeht, sondern anruft oder online bestellt. Ob es dann Sinn macht, neben diversen amenity=*_rental und shop=rental auch noch ein office=rental in die Tagginglandschaft zu pflanzen …??.. muss wohl so sein, denn es ist ebenfalls ein Tag mit Wikiseite, allerdings nur 20 Anwendungen (im Gegensatz zu shop=rental mit 4K). Man hat also die freie Auswahl … welcome to OSM …

Tja, die meisten von der Sorte sind Fahrradleihstationen. Da ist weder ein Laden, noch ein Büro. Von daher ist das schon schlüssig. Bei den anderen ( amenity | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo => Filter “rental”) wäre eine sinnvollere Zuordnung zwar wünschenswert, aber praktisch nicht umsetzbar (Erstes Trägheitsgesetz OSM 
).
Dass aber Sitzbänke und kleine Friedhöfe(!) (grave_yard) in die gleiche Klasse fallen, ist wirklich typisch OSM. Bei Letzterem liegt es sich sicherlich sehr angenehm.

I don’t like shop=rental because we usually classify objects by what they are, and “rental” shops are not a thing, it’s always a specific rental shop that is relevant. A bike rental or boat rental or costume rental etc. has nothing to do with a dump container rental, the primary typology IMHO is not “rental” but “skip rental” or maybe “waste management”
Und was ist mit den 25.000 car_rental? Das sind zum gröten Teil mit Personal besetzte Läden/Geschäfte. Die würden sich auch gut als shop=rental oder office=rental machen … … allerdings nur, wenn man *=rental nicht generell für ungeeignet hält.

Grundsätzlich zum Thema shop=rental vs. amenity=foo_rental: Es gibt keinen Vorteil, wenn man 2 tags verwenden muss um dasselbe auszusagen wie mit einem passenden tag, wenn der einzelne tag (shop=rental) komplett wertlos ist. Mit “rental=*” bekommt man nicht weitere Details, sondern der erste tag sagt praktisch nichts aus ohne “rental”.
Da gebe ich Dir absolut Recht … wenn wir nur überall im Tagging so konsequent wären …!! Trotzdem ist so ein Geschäft für mich eher ein shop als ein office oder eine amenity. In diesem Fall dann ein shop=skip_rental. Btw: was ist denn ein foo_rental?!?
I generally agree that instead of using shop=rental + rental=foo a shop=foo_rental would make more sense. At least over here in Germany. But there’s also places that rent multiple things. Like boats, cars, and trailers. The advantage of a two-step tagging is that we could map this as amenity=rental + rental=boat;car;trailer. Renders could definitely map this in a way that would show all these 3 as being offered for rental.
The xxx=foo_thing-mapping might work in the western world, but I know a lot of places in South America that do a lot of things that we cannot map properly with this type of mapping. One of my cousins rents cars, trailers, bicycles, trikes, and boats as well as camping and hiking equipment.
I’m not saying it’s a great way to tag things, but it offers a lot of flexibility that’s needed sometimes and for some places.
foo wird von Programmierern als Beispiel-Variable verwendet. foo_rental ist also gleichbedeutend mit irgendwas_rental oder bla_rental.
