How to tag a "surf lineup"?

Any suggestions on how to tag a spot in the water where surfers wait for waves? A propos Changeset: 182815475 | OpenStreetMap

For start, are they really persistently using the same place? If no then it is not mappable

tourism=attraction is the catch all :see_no_evil_monkey:
sport=surfing is already tagged.
leisure=pitch is questionable

What makes a given spot suitable for waiting for waves?

If it has to do with the location of a nearby reef or sandbar, perhaps it’d be better to map that instead…

OpenStreetMap Don’t see any surfers waiting for waves, or even any waves to wait for! A couple of images show a shore break but nothing out that far.

I think this is nothing which could be mapped under the condition of being verifiable. There is no pitch visible on the ground nor in aerial imagery. Sometimes some surfers may be seen there, many times not. Such lineup areas are not fixed to a precise location but shift due to weather conditions.

All together it is a non permanent location which is not really verifyable so we should not map it.

probably it depends on the place

I agree that there is no leisure=pitch, that’s just tagging for the renderer or using a tag that is available without it actually being applicable
