How to tag a Press Box?

I was working on a survey, when I came across this building. It’s usually called a press box, and is used for photos, game streams, putting up the score, and other features of baseball/softball. The best preset tag I could think of would be a grandstand, but it’s not really connected to the bleachers on either side of it. Any advise?

Thanks!

Well it definitely looks like a:

building=*
building:levels=2

Whether the field has a scoreboard is normally tagged as a property of the pitch for baseball.[1]

For what its worth there are:

Which seems like we’re probably getting to the point where we should rationalise them.

I’d probably go with man_made=score_board for that aspect of it. Whether you tag it on the building itself or as a node on the relevant side of the building is up to you.

  1. I don’t know why this was created as a baseball specific tag given that just about every sport that keeps score has scoreboards for important games. ↩︎

  2. and one building=score ↩︎

This doesn’t look like the scoreboard itself, which is likely in the outfield where players and spectators can see it, but rather where the scoreboard operator sits. building=score_hut isn’t bad, it’s definitely not a grandstand although I can see the logic for that.

You use the term “Press Box”. Is it used by the media - newspapers, TV, websites, etc. If so amenity=studio.

Not really? It looks like it has none of the facilities of a broadcast studio.

Then why is it called a press box?

Because (when they existed) it’s where the bloke from the local newspaper** would sit while writing his notes (historically biro on pad of paper) before phoning it in to the paper for that evening’s print run?

** historically it probably would have been a bloke…
