How to tag a gantry / bridge for a power cable?

Hi All,

I’m looking at adding details to bridges over the Floating Harbour in Bristol, and have come across my first need to touch power=* objects. At this point there are a few high-voltage cables which emerge from underground to cross the waterway overhead by about 5m (Mapillary link). Could anyone direct me to some similar examples or advise on how best to map them?

My current thought is to tag: -

  • the power=cable way: location=overhead,bridge=yes,covered=yes;
  • the nodes shared with underground cables: location:transition=yes;
  • new polygons showing the outline of the overhead structure: man_made=bridge,bridge:structure=truss.

This looks to be similar to the man_made=goods_conveyor schema. Are there any other things to consider or a better way of representing them?

That looks good to me, I have mapped a pipeline bridge over a small river some time ago using the very same tags except covered=yes.

Assuming the bridges are big enough for humans (presumably inspection / maintenance people only) to walk across, you could map it as a footbridge and tag the cables as location=bridge.

Thanks, both of you. I’ll crack on as planned as I’m not convinced of the benefit of using location=bridge over =overhead. Good to know about the concept, though
