Hi Community… I’d like to add lane assist for the Cascade Rd Exit on HWY I-96. (east bound)
Usually I just add a point to the hwy… then “split” or “cut” the road… then select the road segment on the appropriate side of the road “cut” to add TAG for lanes=* and turn:lanes=*, etc.
HOWEVER… for I-96 (east bound is the (LOWER) roadway… running from NW to SE on the map… When I add a point No problem… But there are NO Scissors when I right click on the point for the context menu.
Anyone know how to work around this…?
Thanks in advance… Also, please note if I’m using the wrong terminology, generally speaking you will know what I’m trying to accomplish. How to “split” a road when No scissors on the right click menu…?
Thanks in advance for any insights on this problem.
Click on the road, look for the relation ‘US:I 96 west’ (remember it!), delete it! Now you can see the scissor again and divide the road. Then add the relation again - done!
Hi there [Herwescheluc]…
Wow… your reply was the fastest I every received. Thanks for the explanation. As for remembering the “Relationship” before deleting it… I think I will write it down so as not to mess anything up later. I’ve noticed this problem on other road combinations too. Your one reply will help me on multiple mapping locations.
Weird, never had to do that in ID, the editor that opens with the OP link. It would just create an additional member for the relation. In testing got no problem to get the scissor selecting any node for the west bound, but not for the east bound. Riddle.
OK, Thé solution without having to remove relation memberships, split and add back. When you select the road it shows the relation at the left. If it is not fully downloaded it has a little download symbol right of the relation name label. Click that and the full relation is downloaded. Then the scissor will show. Repeated this for west to get the screensnap.
(It’s a function I’ve been aching for for years as that is the likely cause of route relations being broken by ID, like in that other thread about the mangled bus route. Did read about ID now have some auto sort functions.)
Yes, that’s the way I am doing such operation as well instead of deleting the road section from the relation and lateron add it again.
When the scissor symbol is deactivated you will even get the message (by moving the mouse over it) that you cannot split the way because the relation is not fully downloaded yet.
JOSM will pop up a screen during the action asking if you want to fetch the rest Yes/No. Most of the time it works but not when there’s thousands of members like the SS16 here (4K+)
@GPS-GR: I ask you to give the solution to @SekeRob: I wasn’t aware of these instructions before, but they are certainly much better than mine, because I don’t want to break anything…
As I always say: You never stop learning - especially not with OSM!
No need to worry - the basic problem is the relation and the solution you offered is correct and does the job. Choosing the option to download the relation instead is just a bit of finetuning the workflow and minimize the risk of causing damage to the relation accidentally.
Hi [SekeRob]
Thanks also for your Fast rely. It got late here for me, so I decided to logoff and reply later. I like your solution even better. Hopefully less chance for me or others to break something later.
