How to model park_ride parking lots?

I’d like to say “Hi!” to the community and start with a tagging question.

I’d like to model parking lots that serve as Park & Ride facility for public transport. Here are my observations and questions so far.

I found entities like this that misses a name tag. I reckon, there shall be at least a name tag, right?

If the entity has a name, is there a convention how to build the name? So far, I found names like this: “P+R”, “P&R”, “P+R ”, “ P+R” and so on. Any best practice how to build the name?

Is a general tag like park_ride=yes or a specific tag like park_ride=bus;tram preferred?

According to the wiki: Key:park_ride this tag shall be used for public transportation. Shall it also be used for commuter car parks like this?

How to tag a parking lot if I do not know if it is used to public transport or something else?

How to tag a parking lot if I do not know if it is used to public transport or hiking?

Any thoughts on this topic are appreciated. Cheers!

To my understanding the only thing that needs to be added to a parking that has the appropriate sign (see wiki article) is: Key:park_ride - OpenStreetMap Wiki.

Concerning naming: as always in OSM, if there is an actual name it can be mapped (as signed). If there is no actual name it should not be named in OSM.

Shall it also be used for commuter car parks like this?

No sure on this. Wiki says ‘or carpool’. Do we have another tag for private car pooling?

Here is an example from Canada talking about carpool and park_ride.

The key carpool actually does exist.

And there is an abundant proposal about carpool.

park_ride=hov?

Oh yes, I wasn’t aware of the meaning of ‘hov’.

That would fit and is part of the well used https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:park_ride scheme as opposed to the low usages of Tag:amenity=car_pooling - OpenStreetMap Wiki and Key:carpool - OpenStreetMap Wiki.

High-Occupancy Vehicle: (HOV or carpool)

Missed to see a mention of fee= where taginfo shows in combo amenity=parking + park_ride=* fee=*. Would it be advisable to add this tag in general? I’d think if there were a fee it’d be discouraging to use but that said, a full day parking her eat central station is 3 Euro and subscriptions are available for less… 10 Euro for the month of June is listed on the site.

The P&R parkings I know are all free of charge. If there is a charge I would add fee=* as for any other parking (amenity=parking is the main feature, park_ride=* just an additional information).

Stimme dem uneingeschränkt zu.

Dieselbe Frage wurde von @GerdP im Januar schon einmal angesprochen, da gab es allerdings nicht viel Resonanz:
