How to create a loop in a trail [edited]

I have a trail shaped like a lollipop – a linear spur that leads to a closed loop. I’ve traced the “handle” and the “candy”, but cannot figure out how to close the “candy” loop and terminate it at the “handle”. I’ve tried shift-click and enter, but that creates a new single-segment way. I read that control-click might work, but it didn’t. Is there a way to close the loop?

[edit:] Should I instead enter this as a connected linear way and a closed way? That seems like it would work, but i want to ensure I’m handling it properly.

It should probably just be a single way that loops around & comes back onto itself?

Could you please send us a link so we can see exactly what you’re talking about?

I’ve just added this to the dev server in iD, so if you mean what I think you mean it should be possible to draw it in one go, but a link to the location is really needed because we might have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Yes, that would work too. Often I find that I’m splitting footpaths into smaller pieces anyway, because the surface changes, or the smoothness, or something else…

Thanks Graeme and Andy for helping. Here’s the way with the unclosed loop.

Thanks, Josh.

As Andy showed with his demo, that should be fine to just join back onto itself.

Hi Graeme,

I see the map Andy sent. But haven’t been able to figure out how to close the loop. I’m using Potlatch3 on Mac.

Split the way somewhere else on the loop and you’ll be able to join it up.

Hi Andy,

Magic! I’ve successfully closed the loop.

I have no idea why that worked, but thank you so much for explaining.
