In many universities, the main roads are tagged as highway=residential, while in many other universities, they are tagged as highway=unclassified. I’ve already searched for previous posts on this topic, many users suggested using highway=service to tag the roads in universities. For small roads, I think it is appropriate. However, in some universities, there are 4-lane roads, which I think is not suitable for tagging as highway=service. So how to tag these bigger roads in universities? Use residential, unclassified or service?
Physical standard is independent from the highway=service
classification by function. It can be a divided road, or single-lane two-way, as long as it fits the role.
There are 2 different problems. =service
itself is constrained by treating the absence of service=
as the important roads, and limited number of service=
types. And then you have to define what’s a single facility to use =service
, as the campuses may be seen as having different compounds/parts inside.
