CyclOSM hasn’t been loading properly for a number of weeks now. It’s not just a case of waiting longer either. The tiles frequently just stop loading and you’re left with an incomplete map (see below). What can be done to fix it?
The map style is very good, which is why I want to support CyclOSM rather than going back to OpenCycleMap. Plus the style is open source, which is even more reason to support it.
Unfortunately it’s difficult to determine where or how it’s hosted. There’s no donation page to help with server fees. There isn’t much discussion about this issue on the GitHub, and the Twitter account is inactive. I’m also interested in seeing if the server architecture can be improved to avoid these issues in the future. Does anyone know how to get in touch with whoever is in charge of hosting CyclOSM?
The website www.cyclosm.org offers a demonstration of this map style, over the full planet and with minute updates thanks to the support of the French local chapter openstreetmap.fr. Tiles are rendered up to zoom level 20.
is that site having the same kind of problems? Maybe French local chapter hosts/hosted osm.org tiles?
That layer has not been loading tiles for me at all since a while so i choose the Cycle Map layer at OSM. org to verify cycleway tagging on roads with that one (the cycleway:left/right/both=lane/separate type tagging).
The other thing you can do if you want to is to host a copy of the style yourself, on something that’s either accessible only by you, or a group of people you want to use it with, or everyone. The cost of doing that would likely be quite small for a relatively small area, but more for a larger area or the whole world.
