I had an old account that used a different email. I deleted that osm account ages ago yet when i tried to change my email for this account it says the old email i used is still in use for a different account
how do i fix this
Needs divine intervention. OSM keeps certain parts of a deleted account, e.g. the email address for reasons such as ‘if we need to contact you…’. When having plans to delete an account, best is/was to put in a garbage disposable email account before the permanent act. Than one can reuse the addy again should there ever be a wish to return with the original address.
so literally no solution except if by some chance someone able to change it sees this
Nonsense, simply write to support at openstreetmap.org
How long ago did you delete that account? Would be fascinated to know why OSM is storing email addresses or even email address hashes once an account has been deleted for any length of time.
It is not a secret, the contact information is retained in case there are any questions about the edits by the account in question, those questions can and do crop up potentially many years after the edits have been made.See Privacy Policy - OpenStreetMap Foundation
