How do I Download Tasking Manager Data When OSM doesn't Connect to JOSM?

I am a new user, and I have installed JOSM. When I try to download data from the Tasking Manager, I get this error:

“Connection with JOSM failed.
Please verify if JOSM is running on your computer and the remote control is enabled.”

The JOSM application is open, but I don’t see a way to enable remote control. Alternatively, I don’t see a way to identify the identify the coordinates to input for the area I am trying to select.

Basically, I don’t know how to get this started.

You need to go to Edit/Preferences, pick “Remote Control” from the left pane and “Enable remote control”

Note that, even with the JOSM side setup correctly, Firefox will block the Remote Control functionality until you disable Advanced Tracking Protection for the site.

(You can work around this in some cases when a direct link can be opened in a new tab, but it’s easier to just click the Shield and toggle the slider to “Off”)
