404 error & that link can’t be opened?

The default map on the website is a raster map, it is just a collection of images just like satellite imagery, so you can’t selectively hide things on it

I’ve edited the link to reflect what was actually meant, based on the context.

FYI they’ve also posted this on Reddit with just as vague of a request.

(edit: added screenshot because the embed sucks)

You can use maps that other people have already created, or you can create a map yourself from OSM data.

Even just on osm.org itself, 8 different maps are available. Several maps don’t show borders by default (example one of mine). If you want to create your own map the easiest way might be to start with the vector tiles used by the Shortbread (actually “Versatiles Colorful”) layer on osm.org.

If you can provide a bit more information about what map you would like to see and how much work you are prepared to do(!) people will be able to help a bit more.

it should be possible to hide things like in edit mode.

bro i just need roads/trails on a satellite map or normal topographic map.

no borders, waterways etc etc.

Im hiking on mountains.

i can do this on the edit mode but im forced to zoom in too much to view things.

So from that it would seem that you’re walking in the mountains, navigating by looking at the OSM website via browser, rather than actually using OSMAnd?

No bro. Im just planning and brainstorming at pc.

The map renders on the OSM website are designed for mapping feedback. You’re best off looking at https://osm-apps.org/ to find a website or app that focuses on what you’re looking for. There’s some hiking specific ones that might be helpful.

I see. Still strange. Its 5 min fix from the design team to implement this. Everything is there already.

It’s definitely not a 5 minute fix. The renders you’re looking at by default are just images.

You certainly don’t see it yet if you think raster tiles can be changed in 5min. There is no layers inside.
The most you can do is install a userscript, and use custom stylesheets on the vector maps Better-osm-org: a script that adds useful little things to osm.org - #207 by TrickyFoxy
Outside, Overpass Ultra can use MapLibre Styling - Ultra

ok i understand now.

but at least at the edit mode, paths/roads visible at what zoomlevel should be editable, thats definately 5 min fix.

i wish i could zoom out a bit and check around.

this is complicated stuff brother

You still haven’t described your use case. Do you need the map for a nice screenshot? Is it important to highlight important POIs along the route? Which specific objects do you want to remove? Provide an example of a location on the map where you want to change something.

By the way, have you tried other map styles available in the right menu?

The easiest way to play around with map style editing is Maputnik

Click on an element, select it in the pop-up, and on the side you can change its color, width, opacity, and zoom level at which you see it.

Yes, it looks scary because it’s designed for very fine-tuning the map style. We may have a simpler solution, but you need to explain in more detail what problem you’re solving.

You say things like “that’s complicated stuff” but also insist that whatever hazy thing you ask from a group of volunteers(!) is a “5-Minute-Fix”.

Maybe step away from your keyboard to think for a moment while also onboarding all the helpful things already shown to you.
