How are fake local business entries handled?

Reports say Google suffers of millions of fake local business entries used for various scamming operations.

How is OpenStreetMap dealing with such things. Are there any effective protection measures against entering fake info?

I think that, apart from checking against incorrect tagging, the best (and only?) measure is an active local community curating the map and cleaning stuff where needed.

I guess that means no handling issue at all.

Hi Pedja,
You could tackle it yourself, ty to make a list of characteristic shop details. As a starter here is one hint;
For instance, a shop inside a residential area could be a web shop, just like a restaurant is likely suspicious.
But it is a local problem with lots of local tricks and special cases.
Good hunting / surveying.
