Hierarchical public_transport=stop_area

The Wiki @ http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:public_transport%3Dstop_area says “For larger interchanges it is often appropriate to organise stop areas into a hierarchy”

My approach would be to create a meta relation with “type=public_transport” & “public_transport=stop_area” and then add sub relations as members to the meta relation.

My questions:

  • Should I just leave the member role empty?
  • Is the creation of hierarchies desired? Or should simpler tagging, i.e. putting everything into one relation, be preferred?
