Thanks for this. :) I really do think my edits were very similar to existing geometry but whatever, like you say it should be possible to reapply it all if they do go ahead and revert it. I had been working on the following: correct podium areas (both lower and upper), correcting foot way alignments and correct use of tunnels and building passages, as well as correct levels, separation of Wallside, Brandon Mews, The Postern and Lambert Jones Mews into individual terraced houses, creating bridges, roofs and other assorted missing geometry on the podium, creating balconies and garden divisions along the south side of Andrewes House, alignment and correct tags on service roads, addition of the Barbican Estate Office and Seddon Highwalk, creation of the exhibition centre link access building and shaft, correct geometry for Frobisher Crescent, Shakespeare, Lauderdale and Cromwell Towers, creation of Seddon Highwalk south, re tagging and renaming of Mayura Barbican, staircase alignment, addition of a number of new staircases around the estate, complete and accurate reforming of the Barbican Lake including fountains outside the Arts Centre, waterfall island to the east and its relation to Brandon Mews, accurate sketching of the podium around the Arts Centre, links to Speed Highwalk, correct alignment of the Jubilee Walking Route, addition of a number of major footways, correction of COLSFG and creation of school grounds, creation of play areas in Speed Garden, accurate sketching of Cromwell Place, addition of substation vents, grass/garden areas on the podium, addition of bridge links between blocks, and with the arts centre, addition of entrance/exits to the towers and a number of blocks etc. And there is more underway too, such as the link bridges between Brandon Mews Highwalk and Brandon Mews, the Sunken Gardens, lakeside fountain areas, North Barbican, a few changes around Barber-Surgeonsā Hall, links to the former Museum of London and Deutsche Bank sites, Beech Street alignment and access roads, cinema locations, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, finishing of routes within the Arts Centre, correct cafe tagging, and a few missing Highwalks around Defoe House.
Iāll be honest, I am actually quite upset that my extensive edits have all been reverted. Nearly 20 hours worth of work has now been removed. And I havenāt even been given a proper list of reasons for these reversions. Thanks everyone!
Have you considered how much work you deleted? How much change history you deleted? I have the impression that is what upset people most. Not the mapping mistakes (or not, I have no idea how to get around the Barbican), but the years of work you casually deleted instead of editing what was there. It showed no respect for the previous work. I know editing is hard, but it is harder to rebuild all the relationship when you delete and replace an object visually. In data terms, it is not the same object. Even if you have the same tags and values.
ok, that is a lot of things
for example: can you clarify what you changed from what? tagging?
one major reason for revert was that you in turn deleted what was mapped already, rather than to edit it
I mean putting tunnels and building passages in the correct places. In the Barbican, many of the high walks are open but within the ābuildingā so building passage would be suitable there. Tunnels on the other hand are obviously something different and to be created in some places.
These all seem to be good-faith changes by a (very) local user. This sort of location is incredibly hard to map well, especially for remote mappers who are mostly reliant on aerial views.
It would be great to see someone local improving the map here. Who can help them? Are there good guides on handling this sort of mapping?
