Grexa Business Mapping — organised editing trial, Mumbai (295 businesses, starting 2026-10-06)

Hi all,

Posting this as the required community notification for an organised
editing activity, per the OSM Organised Editing Guidelines.

Who: Grexa AI Private Limited . Coordinating
contact: Sanjeet Kumar (OSM username: Sanjeet_OSM, gbp.ops@grexa.ai).

What: Adding verified local businesses in Mumbai to OpenStreetMap as
individual POIs — name, category, address, and contact details. This is
a trial batch of 295 businesses; if it goes well, we’re looking to
extend the same process to a much larger set of locations across other
Indian cities later.

Source: Business name, category, and phone number are self-submitted by
business owners directly into the Grexa platform — not sourced from
Google Maps, Bing, Apple Maps, Yandex, or any directory derived from
them. Each business also goes through an individual duplicate check
(Overpass, by location and name) and a source/signage confirmation
before anything is tagged.

How: Manual editing only, one business at a time, using iD/JOSM — no
bulk or scripted uploads. Every changeset will carry the hashtag
#grexa-business-mapping and link back to the activity’s wiki page.

When: Starting 2026-10-06 (two weeks from this post), ongoing after
that — we’ll post progress updates on the wiki page roughly monthly.

Can you tell us how you are getting the location data?

Location (lat/long) comes from the business’s own GPS coordinates
captured in Grexa’s platform. Business name, category, and phone number
are self-submitted directly by the business owner through the Grexa
app and we also validate the same with Google Business profile data.

For the address specifically: it’s entered by the business owner, but
since address text quality varies a lot at data-entry time, we’re not
tagging it as-is — every business goes through an individual
verification step before anything gets uploaded (part of our per-
business review checklist), so what actually lands on OSM is confirmed,
not just copy-pasted from the source data.
