While touching on a bit of local coastline, I had a JOSM non-way in multi-polygon warning. I’d not created a POI etc as part of my work, so I uploaded my work, then investigated. It seems that Ben Nevis is recorded with a role of highest_point. While factually correct, is this an appropriate way of referencing to such a feature?

Should we add lowest_point, longest_waterway, oldest_hotel etc. in GB too (or other names regions)? I think no, nor highest point. Shouldn’t such a feature be established spatially?

I recently removed some that were added in Poland, that were added without discussion and user ignored changeset comments. It seems clear misuse of administrative relations and in my opinion should be removed.

EDIT: ones in Poland were on administrative relation IIRC

Assuming Relation: ‪Great Britain‬ (‪6038068‬) | OpenStreetMap is meant, it is not an administrative relation, but rather a place=island

It is the island relation but he has also added it to the Scotland and Highland relations

Sometimes it can be very hard to know whether something is correct/consensus/ATYL/just plain wrong. Sometimes the only way to be sure(ish) is to ask.

JOSM also complains if someone has added a label node. Unfortunately someone has done this for a daft multi-polygon I see on a regular basis (not a British one).

The mapper seems to have also added highest points to the island relation for every other island he can find.

Shoudln’t we encourage contribution to wikidata for this kind of information?

I see no need for it, given that this is already mapped in OSM

Although they have done the same for just about every other island in the UK and Ireland.

Given they are from north America, perhaps they’re working around the world for highest points.

Really should be fixed in JOSM for label nodes, those are pretty common…

Tecknicalllly, OSM says the highest point in all of Great Britain is a few kilometers away, at the top of this station on the Nevis Range Gondola, a full 2 150 meters high.[1]
