Global identifier for natural=volcano

In OSM, is there a key=value pair that allows us to identify volcanoes according to GVP?

gvp encoding is widely used around the world and I was wondering if it’s possible to use it in OSM.

I’ve done several searches with =

ref:si_vnum=*

ref:vnum=*

ref:gvp=*

gvp:id=*

I consider it important to add some identifier that allows associating Global Volcanism Program so that information can be obtained there.

Imho it should be either ref:gvp (or ref:vn). Both are KISS and not currently in use for something else. If there are multple volcano databases having a “Volcano Number” then ref:vn is a no go.

One third of the named volcanoes in OSM have a wikidata ID. There you have better chances to find the GVP ID (P1886).

  • *:VN= : Vietnam (Vietnamese is *:vi= ). “VNum” is a proper term. It shouldn’t be changed. Either use it whole, or don’t.
  • *:gvp= : “Pará Gavião” language in Brazil. If case-sensitive, at least *:GVP=

“SI” didn’t resonate with me at first. The word has exactly 1 =archaelogical_site ref:smithsonian | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo
But neither ref:Smithsonian:*= nor *:GVP= covers it all. The database is VOTW.
